After arriving from Seattle on Delta I made my way to the Hyatt Centric Portland as part of a bigger trip to Hamburg Germany for Aircraft Interiors Expo. I decided to stay at the Hyatt Centric in Portland before continuing my journey.
Hyatt Centric is equivalent to a regular Marriott or Hilton-branded hotel. Depending on the property Hyatt Centric properties tend to be a bit more upscale than their Marriott or Hilton Equivalent. Let’s look at this Hyatt Centric Portland. This Hyatt Centric Portland Review will have the following:

One of the reasons I chose to stay in this hotel was due to its location.
Hyatt Centric Portland Location
The Hyatt Centric Portland downtown location makes it excellent for sightseeing. One of the sights close to the hotel is Powell’s City of Books – the largest bookstore in the world.
The bookstore is only a 5-minute walk from the hotel. The bookstore is well worth a visit if you’re staying in the Portland area.
The hotel is also close to a light rail station on the Portland light rail system network. I have not used Portland’s light rail system. In my opinion, as in most American cities, you may be better off renting a car to maximize the amount of places you can see. At the time of publication, valet parking is $55 per night at the hotel.
Booking
I booked a one-night stay in a standard room for 9,500 World of Hyatt Points. My booking was seamlessly done and I received an email confirmation for my stay. You can book this hotel through either Hyatt.com or Expedia.
Stay
To my surprise, I was upgraded to a one-bedroom suite due to my elite status with Hyatt. For this Hyatt Centric Portland review. I will review the suite as if I originally booked it. Once I got to the hotel lobby check-in was fast and efficient and the staff was friendly. The elevators were close by and I made my way up to the room.
Hyatt Centric Portland Review One King Bedroom Suite
As soon as you enter the room it leads to a living area that comes with a pull-out couch. The theme of the suite was an interesting mix of contemporary and gave off a construction site vibe. The flooring gave the appearance of concrete.
There isn’t a desk making it hard to get work done if you travel for work.
This stuffed chicken was an interesting addition to the hotel room.
After the main living room, the doorway leads to the sole bedroom in the suite.
This bedroom is equipped with a king bed and attached to a large bathroom. Let’s take a look at the bedroom first.
The room was clean and was more than sufficient for a one-night stay. The bed was comfortable.
Lots of storage and closet space. The bedroom also had a TV with a dresser.
The bedroom had an attached closet as well as an attached bathroom.
Housekeeping forgot to place soap in the bathroom. This was a significant oversight and disappointing as Hyatt Centric typically appeals to a more selective user demographic.
The suite overlooked a nightclub which had loud music blaring throughout the night. It was difficult to sleep through the music. Fortunately, the music stopped playing around 3-4 am.
For dinner, I decided to order something from the restaurant in the lobby.
Hotel Restuarant
The staff member was very friendly and recommended the salad quinoa.
The salad quinoa was excellent and despite the appearance of the small portion size, the salad was filling. One tip I recommend is to charge any purchase you make to the hotel room. This way you can get more points.
Certain elite members have free breakfast at Hyatt Hotels. Some time ago, this particular hotel used to have very generous breakfast hours until 2 pm. Unfortunately, now the breakfast hours are from 7 am to 11 am.
Conclusion
Hyatt Centric Portland Review Conclusion
Concluding this Hyatt Centric Portland review was overall a slightly below-average stay. I was disappointed with the missing soap and nightclub noise. I wish the hotel had better soundproofing. I wouldn’t entirely exclude this hotel as I feel for the price and condition it’s a decent option in the Hyatt Centric system. The hotel’s location is a strong point.
